Carnegie Mellon Pi Kappa Alpha, Beta Sigma Chapter

Founded just 21 years after the birth of Carnegie Mellon (then Carnegie Tech), the Beta Sigma Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has been a proud part of campus life for over a century. Since 1921, we've built a legacy of brotherhood, leadership, and excellence that continues to shape the future.

For generations, Beta Sigma has brought together ambitious, driven men who strive for greatness, not just in the classroom, but in their communities and careers. From engineers and entrepreneurs to artists and innovators, our alumni have gone on to make lasting impacts across every industry.

Today, we continue to uphold the values that have guided us for over 100 years: integrity, intellect, and involvement. Whether you're a prospective member, a proud alumnus, or a friend of the chapter, we invite you to explore what makes Beta Sigma a cornerstone of the Carnegie Mellon experience.

At Carnegie Mellon University, the Beta Sigma Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha was established in 1921 and has been an integral part of CMU's Greek community for over a century. Our brothers are proud to carry forward PIKE's legacy through service, campus involvement, and brotherhood, from hosting philanthropic events like the Fireman's Challenge to competing in CMU's beloved traditions like Buggy. Today, we continue to build men of integrity and character who make an impact on campus, in Pittsburgh, and beyond.

The Pi Kappa Alpha - Beta Sigma charter was originally incorporated when Carnegie Mellon University was known as the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

Listed on the charter are our chapter's founding members who founded the Beta Sigma chapter on the fifth of December, back in 1921.

The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity has been a part of the Carnegie Mellon campus since 1921 and is considered the longest active chapter amongst greek life organizations. During its tenure at the university, it has made huge impacts both in and out of the classroom. Please explore below to see how the chapter has progressed in the past century on campus.

Pika Racing History

PiKA Racing is one of the most storied and successful organizations in the history of Carnegie Mellon University's Buggy (Sweepstakes) races. With decades of elite competition, groundbreaking engineering, and a fierce competitive spirit, PiKA has consistently pushed the boundaries of speed and performance on CMU's iconic course. Throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, PiKA Racing dominated the Buggy scene, winning numerous Men's Sweepstakes Championships and setting course records that raised the bar for every competitor. Notably, PiKA held a record-setting seven-year winning streak in the Men's division from 2002 to 2008, and made history with a 2:04.35 course record in 2008, one of the fastest times ever recorded.
